Emmaus

supper at emmaus1

Sunday after Good Friday Luke tells us
of two disciples walking to Emmaus
Discussing news, the maybe messiah
who was killed, crucified at Golgotha

A stranger joined them for the day’s walk.
They told the news, and he began to talk.
He chides their faith and then teaches the men
who were amazed by his great acumen

Reaching town the man made to walk away,
the disciples urged him strongly to stay.
At the table he blessed and broke the bread.
They recognized him whom they believed dead.

At that moment he vanished from their sight;
proving both the angels and women right.
Jesus was more than the anointed one,
more than prophet, he was God’s only son.

I ever journey in this life of mine.
Even when still, I drift the River Time.
I’d like to think I control my destiny,
But how to chart a river I can’t see.

I long to have an expert at my side.
One who’s walked this path to be my guide.
I worry that my eyes don’t truly see,
or recognize the one sent to guide me.

To you Most High Glorious God I pray;
Have mercy, please send help to light my way.
Open my heart and eyes that I may see
and realize when Jesus walks with me.
